Aminoglycosides traditionally have been administered every eight to twelve hours to achieve peak serum gentamicin levels of 5 – 8 microgram/ml to ensure efficacy in the treatment of serious Gram negative infection. As a result of postantibiotic effect and other pharmacodynamic factors, it is possible that aminoglycosides may be dosed less frequently than previously thought. To find out more about this important change, come to our next SHP Pharmacy Practice Forum, where Ms. Janis Chan will tell you more.

Next, our medication safety guru Mr. Michael Ling will share with us what he has seen and learnt in the Second Meeting of The International Network of Safe Medication Practice Centres held in Dublin late last year.

Place: Conference Room, Pharmacy Department, Kwong Wah Hospital

Program:

1.Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics of Once Daily Aminoglycosides and their Monitoring, Ms. Janis Chan, Pharmacist, UCH.
2.The Dublin Connection – An International Network on Medication Safety, Mr. Michael Ling, DM(Pharm), KWH.
3.AOB, including any pharmacy practice pearls you care to share!

Drinks and light snacks will be served. All SHP members are most welcome. For enquiries, please contact Charles Lo at 35134178.
